OUR VALUES
Cultural Recognition
Known as ‘The place across the water where the spirits are”, to the local Whadjuk Noongar people Rottnest Island has been called Wadjemup for countless generations. In recent times the cultural view of the island has shifted, due to the imprisonment and mistreatment of indigenous people across WA since the arrival of European settlers. Our approach to the project would seek to celebrate the thousands of years of rich cultural history that preceded these dark events as a form of commemoration towards the indigenous spirit of place.
Environmental Sustainability
When designing for the people of today, we should consider the impacts our designs will have on the generation of tomorrow. Too often do we take for granted our natural environment, particularly island destinations. We believe that Wadjemup, with it’s pristine beaches and unique flora and fauna, should be a place to be treasured and preserved for the future.
Social Responsibility
Our studio believes in the inherent dignity of all people regardless of gender, race, social status or physical/mental capability. Therefore our designs seek to promote engagement with the community in all it’s forms and to create well meaning spaces that bring us together. In Wadjemup, this means allowing a space that is accessible to all that come to visit and to break misconceptions that might prevent people from coming.
